GAME NOTES:

  • Summerland takes 9 game winning streak into Osoyoos, where the Coyotes are unbeaten at home. During the tenure of this Summerland franchise(2011-12 – Present), they’re 6-9 at the Sun Bowl Arena with the 2 other games coming in Oliver.
  • Over the past 4 seasons, the Steam and the Coyotes have played each other 34 times during the regular season. Summerland holds a record of 8-25-1-0 in those games, which isn’t exactly a sterling record. They’ll look to start changing that tonight.
  • Riley Pettitt rides an 11 game point streak into Saturday night’s game, putting up 14 points in that span
  • Jack Mills, Josh Pilon, and Paulsen Lautard have combined for 30 points on Summerland’s nine game winning streak.
  • Steam will want to stay away from Special Teams with the Coyotes. Summerland’s power play has been good of late but their numbers still aren’t great for the year, while Osoyoos has the 7th ranked PP in the KIJHL and have the 2nd best home ice penalty kill numbers in the league. Their PK as a whole isn’t great, as the numbers show, but on home ice they’re nearly automatic.
  • In the previous 2 meetings this season, Osoyoos has outscored Summerland 13-4 thanks to 6 power play goals and a shorthanded marker. Osoyoos’ PP always seems to kill Summerland, and this season is operating at a near 43% clip against the Steam.
  • Goaltending will be a key in this game. If I was a betting man I’d tell you it’ll be Jake Mullen (6-2/1.68GAA/.936 SV%) vs Brett Soles (12-3/1.86GAA/.940 SV%) when the teams take the ice tonight.
  • To date, in the month of November, Jake Mullen and Matt Huber have combined to give the Steam an 8-0 record, allowing just 11 goals on 206 shots to date in the month. For those counting at home that’s a 1.37 team Goals Against Average and a .946 Sv%.
  • Summerland Captain Paulsen Lautard is one goal shy of tying the franchise record of 57 set by Dylan Burton (2011-’14)
  • Osoyoos’ top line of Rainer Glimpel, Braeden Tuck and Bobby Larue have combined for 90 points through 23GP. To put that into prospective, the rest of the Coyotes roster has 158 points, collectively.
  • 17 of those collective points left the team last week with Daniel Stone, who has been summoned to the CJHL’s top team, the Penticton Vees, for the remainder of the calendar year. My bet is that as much as the ‘Yotes hope to have him back him back come the new year, that might just not be an option. Stone is good enough to play Jr. A, if not for the Vees then for someone else. He’s quite possibly the best rearguard in the KIJHL’s Okanagan/Shuswap conference, and I’d say it’s quite likely that if the Vees don’t retain his services, somebody else in the Canadian Jr. A ranks will pick him up.

Puck drop goes from the Sun Bowl tonight at 7:35PM.
